STOP #2: PAINT MEETS

We arrive now at a stop which might be seen as self-aggrandizing. But I’ve already made a whole website, so I really don’t care. On this second stop on the ROUTE I want to bring attention to the ways that more traditional visual media can interact with the media and subject matter of memes.

We never said the journey was going only forward.

In case it wasn’t already clear, I find memes fascinating. Particularly, I’m interested in the way they develop and also the way they might not ever change over time. I find drawing and painting them, usually in acrylic paint and/or crayon, helpful in pondering their evolution and their roles in communication. While I don’t think my works are groundbreaking in any way, I think they act as a good example of how we can ask the questions and explore:

WHERE WILL MEMES GO? WHERE WILL WE GO ON OUR JOURNEY OF VISUAL CULTURE EXPERIENCE?

Some of these works are direct translations (I use this linguistic word, translation, extremely intentionally here), of common memes while a few originate from a social media job I currently have in the world of opera. Some are more finished than others, but again I pose them here not as a finished collection but as examples of in-progress investigation.
